El Protocolo obliga a los Estados parte a establecer jurisdicción sobre estos delitos, adoptar medidas para su prevención y cooperar en el enjuiciamiento o extradición de los presuntos responsables. La Asamblea Legislativa aprobó el Protocolo mediante Ley 8258, y el presente decreto formaliza la ratificación por parte del Poder Ejecutivo, depositando el instrumento ante el Secretario General de la Organización Marítima Internacional.
